OCA is a national organization dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans in the United States. Established in 1973, OCA has 51 chapters and 30 college affiliates nationwide. OCA owns a permanent home near Dupont Circle in Washington, DC.
Vision of OCA-DC:
OCA-DC is one of the founding chapters of OCA. We are an inclusive community of Chinese and Asian Americans, both immigrant and native born, who care about the long-term collective well-being of Asian Americans in this country.
- We serve as a bridge between Americans of Chinese descent and the Chinese immigrants, and between Asian and non-Asian Americans.
- We are a voice that advances the collective interests of our community for the common good.
- We promote civic engagement and political involvement of Asian Americans at all levels
- We inform and educate Asians and non-Asians alike about Asian American issues
What OCA-DC is NOT:
- A social networking group for fun activities only (we are fun-loving people though)
- An organization that focuses on our immediate needs and interests at personal level (we can’t tell you where the best stocks are or what school districts are the hottest to buy)
- A cultural celebration organization (we don’t do lion or dragon dances)
- A geography or ethnicity based organization (we have members that are non-Asians and Chinese Americans from several countries and regions)
